Questions from parents and teachers
What is Hudhud?
Hudhud is a free website that teaches Arabic to children aged 4 to 11. In about ten minutes a day, children learn the Arabic alphabet, letter sounds, vowel marks, how letters join, first words and everyday phrases through lessons, games, quests and rewards. Hudhud is named after its mascot, a hoopoe (hudhud in Arabic).
Is Hudhud free?
Yes. Hudhud is free to use, with no ads, and everyone who makes a grown-up account now keeps it free forever. Children can also try it as a guest with no sign-up. Stars earned in the app buy outfits for Hudhud the hoopoe, not real things.
What age is Hudhud for?
Hudhud is made for children aged 4 to 11. Younger children start by listening and matching pictures; older children unlock a Challenge Zone with harder reading and word games.
Does my child need to read English or Arabic first?
No. Every letter, sound, word and phrase is spoken aloud, so children can learn by listening and tapping before they can read. The instructions are spoken in English too.
How long should a child practise Arabic each day?
Around ten minutes a day works best. Short, regular practice helps children remember letters and words, and Hudhud brings back the ones a child finds tricky until they stick. A daily streak encourages coming back.
What does a child learn on Hudhud?
There are six worlds: Letter Land (all 28 letters), Word Garden (animals, colours, numbers 1 to 10, food, family, body, home and nature words), Shape Shifters (how letters change shape when they join), Vowel Valley (fatha, kasra, damma and long vowels), Reading Rocket (spelling and reading real words) and Chatter Cove (greetings, manners and simple sentences).
Do we need to sign up?
No. Children can press Try it now and start straight away as a guest on that device. A parent or teacher can make a free account later to keep progress, add more children and see reports.
Is Hudhud safe for children?
Hudhud collects as little as possible. Children never have their own login or email, scoreboards show only a made-up nickname, there are no ads or tracking cookies, and nothing children do is sent to an AI service.
Does Hudhud use AI?
No AI runs in the app. Every question and word was written by hand and every voice clip was made in advance, so nothing is generated by AI while children play, and nothing children do is sent to an AI service.
Can I use Hudhud at home, in Islamic school or in a classroom?
Yes. Hudhud works in any web browser on phones, tablets and computers, so it suits home learning, homeschooling, weekend and madrasa classes, and primary classrooms. A grown-up account can hold several children, each with their own progress.
Which kind of Arabic does Hudhud teach?
Hudhud teaches Modern Standard Arabic (fuṣḥā), the Arabic used in books, school and the news across the Arab world, and the same alphabet used to read the Qur'an. Words are shown with full vowel marks (harakat) to make reading easier.
